Cheering at Ironman Arizona
I always love coming out to Ironman Arizona to cheer everyone on. So many people cheer me on at races all year, so it's the least I can do to cheer for everyone else at this race. It reminds why I got into this sport in the first place, before it became a profession: for fun! Of course it's always fun to race, but it's also fun to spectate, to hang out with your friends all day and support your other friends in their pursuit of a goal.
When I'm racing, I might not look up, but I hear every single "Go Heather!" or "Yeah HJ!" and Arizona is such a great chance to return that favor. The first time I did this race I struggled on the run, and spectators helped keep me in the game. This past weekend I'd like to think we took peoples' minds off the pain of running a marathon, if only for a few seconds, as they ran through the Moxie Multisport cheer section :)
Another reason I love coming to this race is seeing everyone at the Wattie tent on Friday. During the rest of the season I can't really hang out at the expo very much—I tend to be off resting and getting ready for the race. But the Arizona expo gives me a chance to meet the people who come to the tent to buy our stuff, who believe in what we do, and it's something I'm really grateful for.
Today we're headed back home to Bend for a few days for Thanksgiving and a chance to hang out with our families. Then we'll be back in Tucson for a bit, finishing up some business before the end of the year, and then I'll be home in Bend for awhile, laying the foundation for 2018!!!
On this Thanksgiving day, I'm thankful for so many things- family, friends, my incredible sponsors, and everyone who has supported me from near and far... All of you who have sent messages or notes of encouragement and have cheered for me over the years...THANK YOU. I am truly grateful.
Thanks for reading and wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving! xoxo, HJ
